17 French phrases you will need to ask for directions

From saying that you’re lost to asking for the nearest supermarket, here is all the French vocabulary you will need to know to ask for directions when you’re in France

Pouvez-vous m’aider? – Can you help me?

Je me suis perdu[e]! – I am lost!

Excusez-moi, pour aller à la gare, s’il vous plaît? – How do you get to the railway station?

Y a t-il une banque / un supermarché / une pharmacie près d’ici? – Is there a bank / supermarket / pharmacy near here?

Où est la banque la plus proche? – Where is the nearest bank?

Où se trouve… ? – Where is…?

Où se trouve l’office de tourisme? – Where is the tourist office?

Il se trouve au bout de la rue – It’s at the end of the road

Vous allez avoir le musée sur votre droite – You will see the museum on your right

Allez tout droit – Go straight ahead

C’est loin – It’s far away

C’est près d’ici – It’s near here

Tournez à gauche et c’est la première rue à droite – Turn left and it’s the first street on the right

Traversez le pont – Cross the bridge

Devant – In front of

Derrière – Behind

À côté de – Next to
