Actress Celia Imrie’s debut novel Not Quite Nice is an enjoyable foray into the imagined lives of a group of expats living on the French Riviera. The story centres on Theresa, who impulsively buys a flat in Bellevue-sur-Mer and leaves her bossy daughter and nightmarish grandchildren behind to move to the south of France. She soon makes friends with the close-knit group of expats living in Bellevue, starts a cookery club and settles into life in France. However, as she learns more about her fellow expats and their tangled lives start to cause problems Theresa realises that life on the Riviera is not quite as perfect as she first imagined.
