New French language tool
Are you a frustrated French learner and wish you could speak with greater fluency?
Learning a language is never easy and although there are now a large number of very good products and resources for beginner to intermediate learners of French, the options thin out significantly for those who want to make significant improvements towards complete fluency. This is why we at Languages Direct are so keen on the French audio magazine, Bien-dire. Published six times a year by Editions Entrefilet in Lyon, Bien-dire is a bi-monthly audio magazine designed for intermediate and advanced learners of French to help them both improve their fluency in the language and better understand French culture.
Each issue of Bien-dire comes in two parts: The printed magazine and the audio CD.
The glossy magazine is packed full of lively and up-to-the minute articles about France and French culture as well as regular features on the culture of other Francophone countries. Topics covered include travel, business, the arts, cinema, politics, sport, cuisine, popular culture, French linguistics, plus profiles on leading personalities and issues making the news. Articles are graded for difficulty (using the Common European Framework and DELF/DALF) so that the student can assess their progress during the course of the subscription. Each article is accompanied by a glossary in English that highlights and explains all the key vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. In addition, many of the articles provide supplementary practical information about the subject under discussion.
The accompanying audio CD is designed to improve listening comprehension and build confidence in speaking French naturally. Put together by a team of professional narrators, each 60-minute CD provides well-paced readings of the key articles from the magazine, together with pronunciation and intonation exercises, and dialogues based on one of the articles, where the listener becomes the third member of the conversation. The audio component of the subscription will enable the user to tune their ear to a variety of accents and registers and to improve significantly their ability to understand French as it’s really spoken.
