Dream property on the shores of Lake Annecy

Every so often, we come across a French property that knocks us for six. This month, Eve Middleton falls in love with this lakeside home near Évian-les-Bains

There’s nothing quite as calming as gazing out over the smooth inky-blue depths of a body of water – and that’s just what I’d be able to do if I were the owner of this beautiful 1920s pad on the shores of Lake Annecy. On the market for €1,780,000 and set back from the main road in its own private grounds, the detached villa property has just been restored, so all I’d need to do would be to hop on a plane to Geneva airport and within an hour’s drive I’d be right at home.

Upon arrival, I could choose to dip my toes in the lake waters or opt for a few leisurely lengths in my own private swimming pool – depending on the time of year that is! If it was winter, all I’d need to do would be to throw my skis in the back of the car and head for the Portes du Soleil ski resort just 30 minutes away, and in the sunny summer months I could always try my hand at sailing on the lake, or walking in the mountains.

Whatever the season, returning home from the area’s many outdoor activities would be a pleasure. The property’s six bedrooms are perfect for having friends and family to stay, and the long kitchen/dining area has plenty of space for entertaining. I’d cook up a feast and we’d all sit down to enjoy the gastronomic pleasures of France, with the large glass doors affording a spectacular view out across the waters beyond. If the weather permitted, we could move the action out on to the terrace balcony, enjoying wine-fuelled discussions long into the balmy summer nights – all set to the backdrop of that stunning Lake Annecy of course.
