La Colmiane, Alpes-Maritimes
An hour north of Nice you’ll find France’s longest zipline in the mountain resort of La Colmiane. At a whopping 2,500m long, this is no ride for the faint-hearted. You’ll also be whizzing along at a maximum speed of 120km/h, so hold on tight. You can take on the challenge solo, or why not bring a buddy and speed down the slope in tandem?
Super Besse, Puy-de-Dôme
At the foot of the Puy de Sancy, the highest mountain in the Massif Central, is the Super Besse zipwire. Come winter or summer, take to the skies like a bird and zoom down the 1,600m wire for the best views over the resort. At 250m, this zipwire boasts the greatest height change of any in France.
Châtel, Haute-Savoie
Part of the historic Chablais province on the French-Swiss border, Châtel boasts a 1,200m-long wire that can reach a speedy 100km/h. If you’re skiing, don’t worry about your equipment; it follows you down a wire so you can simply pick it up at the bottom.
Val Thorens, Savoie
See the Trois Vallées in a whole new way in the world’s highest-altitude zipline, La Tyrolienne in Val Thorens. Open in 2014 and beginning at an altitude of 3,230m, the ride reaches over 100km/h on its 1km journey over to the Val Thorens crest.
Fumay, Ardennes
In Terraltitude, an outdoor adventure park in Ardennes, is this fantastic 1km-long zipwire that takes in views of the Meuse at more than 100km/h. You choose either a head-first or seated position, the latter perfect for a (slightly) more sedate ride.
The Eiffel Tower, Paris
Yes, you read that right – from 29 May to 2 June, a temporary zipwire will see thrill-seekers soar from the Eiffel Tower to the École Militaire in an initiative from water brand Perrier to coincide with the French Open and the tower’s 130th anniversary. To take part in the special 800m journey, members of the public could enter an online ballot.
