Aude Pays Cathare, the stuff of dreams

If one day came an impelling call from somewhere with beautiful scenery, a wealth of heritage and idleness as a way of life for the summer, then Aude Pays Cathare would be that place where all this is possible. Here such dreams come true in many wonderful ways. Here is your invitation for a journey…

Aude Pays Cathare is a revelation of cultural, geographical and human diversity for inveterate romantics, pacific adventurers or through passengers to holiday planet. Between Languedoc and Gascony, its identity is powerfully expressed in History with a capital H, age-old traditions and projects for the future.

New technologies may offer many opportunities to prepare a journey before it starts, enrich it day by day and store memories of happy times together, people here are still very attached to their land and traditions – a way of life which the Romans founded when they planted vines and olive trees in the Narbonnaise and which is perpetuated by producers and chefs in delicious Assiettes de Pays full of flavour with poultry, vegetables, cheese and fruit labelled Pays Cathare, by the flair for welcome and hospitality demonstrated by all those who contribute to a special experience, be they hoteliers, managers or guides on historical and heritage sites, winemakers, chefs…

All of them want to convey what they feel about this land where they live and which still amazes them. No visitor can fail to be moved by Aude Pays Cathare! At every moment, every bend in the road from the wooded slopes of the Montagne Noire gazing from afar at the tumultuous foothills of the Pyrenees where the River Aude roars down the upper valley, to the Lauragais plain or the salty plain left bare by the waves under the morning star, the feeling of exploring a new world wells up again and again.

So it should be no surprise to find these worlds magnified on the big screen. The 7th art is inspired by the wide open spaces of the Aude, by its mediaeval citadels on mountain tops like Peyrepertuse and Quribus or massive like Carcassonne, by the grace of the Canal du Midi and by places steeped in history like the abbeys of Fontfroide and Alet-les-Bains. Aude Pays Cathare likes to share and its dreams are yours…
