A Cannes Film Festival Special...

FILM - UN HOMME QUI CRIE. Awards: Jury’s price at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010. The film is set in modern day Chad. Adam, a former swimming champion now in his sixties works as a lifeguard at a luxury hotel in N‘Djamena. When the hotel is bought out by a Chinese company, he has to give up his job to his son, Abdel, he is not happy about the situation, which he considers as social decline. The background to the fi lm is the civil war, with armed rebels threatening the authorities in power, as a reaction to this situation the government calls on the population to make a ‚‘war effort‘‘, demanding money from them or a child old enough to fi ght. So Adam is hounded by his district chief to provide his contribution. But Adam has no money, he only has his son... Directed by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, 2010. FILM - TROIS VIES ET UNE SEULE MORT. Awards: Officially selected at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. Specific teaching and learning tools have been developped on this film by TV5MONDE. A salesman who returns home after twenty-eight years of absence, a teacher who becomes a tramp or a ma�tre d‘h�tel, a businessman who invents a family abroad... FILM - LOULOU.

Awards: Official selection at the Cannes Film Festival (1980). One evening, Nelly meets Loulou, a young waster who has spent several months in prison for petty theft. After being violently thrown out on the street by her husband, she decides to tag along with him. She soon fi nds herself expecting a child, but Loulou has no intention of changing his lowlife ways, and spends his time with his friends or committing petty crime at night. Hurt by his attitude, Nelly decides that she doesn‘t want to keep the child. Director: Maurice Pialat, 1980. Starring: Isabelle Huppert, G�rard Depardieu... With subtitles. FILM - LA MOUSTACHE. Awards: Europa Cinema Prize at the Directors‘ Fortnight (2005). One day, to make his friends and family laugh, a man shaves off his moustache. It‘s a great change for him. But his wife doesn‘t notice, nor do his friends… Is it a joke? When he asks them, they tell him that he has never had a moustache... Directed by: Emmanuel Carr�re, 2004.
