LA DAME AUX CAM�LIAS – LITERARY GREATS RETROSPECTIVE. Arriving alone to Paris fleeing from unwanted male attentions, Alphonsine Plessis fi rst becomes a prostitute then a courtesan then Countess… After marriage to the Count de Perregaux, Alphonsine meets Dumas fi ls and it’s love at fi rst sight, but the passionate relationship is doomed to failure. Plessis, Alphonsine’s father is opposed to this risky love affair and fi nally Alphonsine tragically succumbs to illness and dies at the age of 23 with only her father for company. Alexandre Dumas fi ls immortalises his mistress in writing a play dedicated to her memory. From the fi rst showing it is a triumphant succes. Director: Mauro Bolognini, 1981. FILM DRAMA – V COMME VIAN 1946. (Programme celebrating Francophonie week) Favourite for the Pl�iade award with his first novel L‘�cume des jours, Boris Vian is beaten to the prize by an Abb� Grosjean. Thus begins an epic unending journey across the desert in which he never stops trying to show his worth as a great writer until his death in 1959. Director: Philippe Le Guay, 2011. With subtitles. Tues 20th March at 8pm, Thurs 22nd at 5 :35pm and Fri 23rd at 1pm.

 

 

 

DOCUMENTARY FBI – J.EDGAR HOOVER. Copyright FBI. The head of the FBI, John Edgar Hoover, understood early on that to establish the power of the FBI for the long term he needed to work on its image. Fifty years have been dedicated to constructing the myth of an all-knowing, all-powerful Bureau, communicating this myth using all and every method at its disposal then and now… With subtitles. FOOD MAGAZINE – �PICERIE FINE SAISON 2. Each week TV5MONDE viewers can follow Chef Guy Martin and share in his experiences as he searches out top French gastronomic delights, along with meeting the people that help in their creation; farmers, fishermen… the artisans who demonstrate their talent, experience and savoir-faire!
