This four-day self-guided walking tour takes you from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the Atlantic Ocean, discovering the gentle green landscapes of the Basque Country as you go. Highlights include the spectacular viewpoint at La Rhune and, of course, the famous Basque food and hospitality.

You will discover the true Basque Country – its superb peaks, green valleys, and picturesque red and white villages. At the end of your walk, you will stay in one of the region’s liveliest and most attractive ports.

Enjoy a stroll around Mount Urzumu with its lovely views over Espelette; the village has an interesting château and church as well as an exceptional artisan chocolate producer (Antton), but is really famous for its festival celebrating the local red peppers (pimentos). Ainhoa is another wonderful spot with tempting arti-san producers of foods, drinks, arts and crafts.

Your panoramic highlight is at the summit of La Rhune with its 360-degree views towards the Pyrenees; you can walk up or take the magnificent rack railway. Beautiful St-Jean de Luz is one of the liveliest towns on the southern Atlantic coast, bursting with energy from its harbourside through its twisting streets to the bars and restaurants. Your last walk is a coastal one, out of St-Jean-de-Luz and over the rich green hills around Urrugne that run close to the magnificent Atlantic. Find out more about the walking break here.

Purely Pyrenees provides exceptional walking and cycling holidays to suit all levels of ability, and is the leading operator for the entire Pyrenees (France & Spain).

The closing date for the competition is 19 June 2019
