What’s on in April 2023?

Look out for blossom and blue skies – April is a wonderful time to visit France as the weather is improving and spring brightens up the landscape. Here are some events you can look forward to this month…

 

Chartres en lumières

Chartres Cathedral illuminated – Wikimedia Commons

See this beautiful city in a whole new light, as every evening its buildings become colourfully lit up, including the cathedral, wash houses, theatre and bridges. Attracting more than a million visitors each year, the lumière season will be launched on 15 April with 5km and 10km races (walkers welcome too) along the lit trail.

15th April

La Fête de la Coquille Saint Jacques

Celebrating the scallop, treasure of the Bay of St- Brieuc, the festival will give visitors to the Côtes-d’Armor an opportunity to learn about the life and skilled work of a sea-fisherman. There will also be an arts and crafts market and an eclectic programme of musical concerts. Find a recipe for scallops here.

15th-16th April

Free online event: Fabulous French Food Springtime Special

Spring is here and French markets are exploding with colour and flavour. Join favourite podcaster Andrew Prior as he fills his basket with choice ingredients to prepare a fabulous seasonal menu. As ever, Andrew’s recipes are simply delicious and easy to replicate at home, no matter your level of expertise in the kitchen.

27th April

International Kite Festival in Berck-sur-Mer

Look up to the skies on the Opal Coast and enjoy a colourful display of kite-flying as the International Kite Festival is celebrated in Berck-sur-Mer. Amateurs, professionals and observers flock to the seaside resort every year for this event, so make sure to pack your cerf-volant.
