New railway lines under discussion

Proposed route could slash journey times between French capital and the south

New railway lines could cut travel times between Paris and the southern cities of Toulouse and Bayonne.

The lines, which would run between Bordeaux and Toulouse, and Bordeaux and Bayonne, are still under discussion. However, if agreed, the lines, which would open in 2020, would cut journeys from Paris to Toulouse to around three hours, and from Paris to Bayonne to around three hours and 30 minutes. Currently journey times between Paris and Toulouse are from five hours and 28 minutes, with those between Paris and Bayonne around four hours and 58 minutes.
