Dream property: modern home in Brittany

Every so often, we come across a French property that knocks us for six. This month, Stephanie Sheldrake falls for a modern family home in Morbihan

I have to confess I’m not so handy with a hammer or a paintbrush so when I saw this modern family home that is ready to move straight into, it ticked a few boxes for me. The house is decorated to a high standard in neutral colours – ideal for me to stamp my decorative mark on, without needing a sledgehammer to do so.

There are many reasons why this home appeals. The beautiful views of the surrounding rural landscape really do clinch the deal. Downstairs, there is an open-plan sitting/dining room with a wood-burning stove and sliding doors, so I can enjoy the spectacular views of the River Vilaine from the comfort of my sofa. Upstairs are four bedrooms, two of which have en-suite bathrooms, perfect for family and friends when visiting. Outside there are enclosed gardens on a plot of land which slopes down towards the river, and there is an outdoor terrace overlooking the heated swimming pool and the views beyond.

Location is so important when deciding where to live, and I’ve always loved the Brittany department of Morbihan, with its breathtaking unspoilt coastline, ever since I spent happy holidays there as a child. The house benefits from having a secluded location on a quiet lane, but is on the edge of the village of Béganne, so all the amenities are accessible by foot, allowing me to take a morning stroll to collect my baguette without needing to take to my car. The sandy beaches of Damgan, Billiers and Pénestin are a 20-minute drive away, and medieval port of Vannes is also close by, so I can enjoy all that the coast has to offer. And if I fancy some night-life, the vibrant city of Nantes is an hour away.

On the market for €371,000, this property would make a lovely home or holiday gîte.
