BA scraps meals on short haul flights

British Airlines has announced that it will no longer serve meals on short haul flights after 10am.

Passengers traveling before 10am will continue to be served breakfast, but other passengers will have to make do with drinks and snacks, saving the airline an estimated 22m a year.

The airline insisted it was still a full service’ airline, differentiating itself from its no frills’ competitors by not charging customers to check in at a desk or to place luggage in the hold.

The airline is considering other cost-saving devices in a bid to raise over 600m to help the company weather the recession.
