London doctors and wine enthusiasts Paul Jenkins and Paul Jarman bought a unique vineyard in Hérault in 2018 and have now launched a new organic rosé

After a long search for a vineyard with lots of potential and a unique story, Paul Jenkins and Paul Jarman bought Domaine du Météore in Hérault (Languedoc-Roussillon) in 2018. The London-based doctors and keen wine enthusiasts already knew the area well and when they discovered the Domaine in the village of Cabrerolles, they knew they had found what they had been looking for.

Taking its name from the 200-meter-wide, 10,000-year-old meteor crater around which it centres in the foothills of the Haut-Languedoc mountains, Domaine du Météore produces organic wines from vines planted in the rocky schist soils in and around the crater. The range included two white and five red wines and Paul and Paul have now added a rosé to the vineyard’s offering. Working with their team, which includes agronomist-oenologist Jean Natoli, they have recently launched Le Météore, an organic AOP Faugères rosé made from a blend of 50% Cinsault, 40% Grenache Noir and 10% Mourvèdre grapes, and it is available to buy in the UK via the vineyard’s website.

“We are delighted to be launching Le Météore Rosé in the UK,” Paul and Paul say. “Our aim is to create wines that truly give a sense of terroir and Le Météore is no exception. The distinctive minerality found in the wines, due to the schist soil and high altitude, helped we believe by a little cosmic space dust from the meteorite, brings an elegance which we think consumers will love.”

An exciting pop-up restaurant in the crater has also been created as a fine dining experience under the stars, with food matched to the vineyard’s wines. On selected summer evenings diners can enjoy a six-course menu with accompanying wines served on long tables beneath the trees at the foot of the crater. The dishes will be made from ingredients grown at the Domaine, foraged from the surrounding woodlands or sourced from local organic growers, and cooked over a wood fire stoked with the prunings from the vineyard’s vines.

Le Météore tasting notes: A pale rosé with a slight rose flower tinge. The nose is both expressive and delicate with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, and grapefruit with a touch of white pepper. In the mouth, the roundness, smoothness and the freshness are well balanced. The whole is juicy, harmonious and elegant.
