I’ve always hankered after the Good Life in France – though as it’s often pointed out to me, the reality of running a farm is far more hard work compared to the dream.

Good job, then, that this renovated 18th-century property offers all the delights of a farmhouse, without any need for me to turn my attention to farming matters at all.

Inside the main two-bedroom farmhouse, the floors are oak and flagstones, though as the property is fully insulated, there’s no chance of chilly feet in winter. The modern electrics, plumbing, vaulted cellar and oak balcony mean that all the conveniences of modern life are safely in place for my 21st-century take on an idyllic rural life.

As well as the main two-bedroom farmhouse, the south-facing property comprises a two-bedroom guest house, a two/three-bedroom barn conversion under restoration, and a further stone barn. There are sweeping views over the surrounding countryside, and several terraces for me to choose from, in order to best enjoy my evening apéritif of a kir royale or two, as the sun sets on another day in paradise.

The property is a haven for wildlife and local flora and fauna, sitting as it does on 12 acres of fenced pasture and woodland – so, if I changed my mind and fancied keeping, say, horses or donkeys, there’s room enough for me to indulge my bucolic whims.

Plus, as the property is reduced to €390,000 from €440,000, there’s even more reason to get out the cheque book – in between tending to the chickens and feeding the donkeys of course!
