There’s no shortage of picturesque French villages to visit but where do you start? We’ve selected some of our favourite villages from across France to help you decide which ones to explore first

From hilltop medieval villages in the south-west to picturesque coastal villages along the Mediterranean, from riverside villages in northern France to traditional mountain villages in the Alps and Pyrénées, France is full of beautiful villages! There is even an association, Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, set up to preserve and promote these French villages and there are now more than 150 villages that can call themselves one of the most beautiful villages in France. These are some of our favourite villages from across France...
