Mmm, Frenchie, I must try fromage a la chicoree!   But the thought of dunking something as powerful as Maroilles in coffee does sound rather horrifying!  Wink [;-)]

If your French is good enough to enjoy this film (I am not talking about the accent, which as other people have correctly said is no barrier as it is explained for the benefit of the southerner) you might be interested by this survey of French critics' opinions:

The best critics are US : the people , and not a bunch of  so called " intellectuals " stuck inside four walls in Paris !

I'm fed up with their despise for what is not " intellectual"..

Sometimes I want to read great authors, sometimes I want to watch " difficult" films, but sometimes, I want to go to the cinema with my son or friends and have a good laugh , forget about daily life , just have a good time!

And even if there were some clichés, the film was full of humanity IMO .

Compare my review of the Ch'tis here

with the one in today's Independent
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/film-and-tv/features/meet-the-french-directors-bemoaning-the-gallic-film-boom-810827.html

me : "It is a mildly amusing.."
Independent "A pleasant, mildly funny but mediocre movie,"

me "much that is derivative and anodyne "
Independent "a cheerful, cliché-ridden, underscripted attempt "

me "an escape from reality"
Independent "He has tapped in to the same vein of French sentimentalism"

me "It's not "la Grande Vadrouille"
Independent " It does not deserve to be considered alongside La Grande Vadrouille,"
they also compared it to "allo allo as I did in Jill's thread about French films for Art or Entertainment

Do you think the Independent have a lurker in here Razz

Norman

Tonight I was informed that the film has outgrossed "La grande vadrouille" which at the time I had never heard of (is it a comedy WW2 movie) bringing in over €22 million and is apparently on worldwide release.

Yes, it's been in London this month at the Cine Lumiere in the French Institute.  Yesterday it also opened in Islington, Notting Hill, Hampstead - and the Empire Leicester Square!   (I am off for my second viewing tonight;  Sorry Norman!)
