Some LPO regional web sites now have the facility for you to create a log on and register your bird recordings on line. Your recordings are available to you at any time as a personal record and are also used to build a departmental record. The Swiss systemallows you to pinpoint exactlywhere each bird was seen. At present only the Aquitaine site has English as an option.
For people in La Vienne, (86), that would like to use this facility in the future but find it difficult "to get their heads round it" I can arrange a visit to the office for small groups to have it explained, and at the same time meet a few people on the team who will be happy to answer your questions in English. Anyone that would be interested - please contact me.
We had a Green Woodpecker on the lawn today plus at least 2 Jays.I have never seen so many Jays before.A lake nearby has 10 species of birdlife,9 we has seen.

Re: Your bird observations on line
Its a shame there isn't one in the Limousin. The bird population here is varied to say the least. Saw a pair I've not seen before the other day. They were either Garden Warblers or Chiff Chaffs. My Nuthatches are back and the Willow Tits are having a feeding frenzy on the sunflower seeds at the moment. Not to mention the Great Tits, Blue Tits, Chaffinches, Wrens, etc. The Nuthatches are my favourites. You don't stop having fun when you get old, you get old when you stop having fun
During the cold weather we had a funny litle bird often in the yard. He was incredible in amongst all the dogs, just a few feet away from them. He was there all the time sitting on their water bowls having a drink, then shaking his head. At first I was frightened they would get him, but they didn't seem to take much notice as if they had got used to him. If one did chase him, he would just fly up a bit into a tree or on the kennel bars, then down again. If we went out the other side at the front of the house, he would sometimes be there as if he was looking for company. There was plenty of food on the bird table. Then when it wasn't so cold we saw him less and now he doesn't seem to be around.
I don't know if you can see him being stalked by Saya and now up in the tree.
If you can, could you please tell me what he is. I know most dog breeds, but not so good at the birds! What would he eat in the Winter?
