Can anyone identify this plant please?

It has purple trumpet shaped flowers in sunshine and now is developing a central globe shaped 'prickly' sphere that can just be made out in the photo.

It's toxic by the way, best not handled and if you do wash your hands.

Thanks. I'll give it a wide berth.

Just a thought....... should I remove the plant if it is in close proximity to vegetables growing? Is there any danger of contamination? I would like to see the plant develop but if it is likely to be a problem then maybe I should get rid of it.

No, nothing to worry about. I only gave the warning because of the possibility that you may handle it and then touch your mouth, (something we do more times than we are aware of). It may also cause a reaction to your skin, particularly the more sensitive areas.
