FRENCH CLAIMS COURT FOR CHILD MAINTENANCE
Reply Quote

I live in the uk and pay uk taxes, I have a daughter who lives with here mother (mother french, father english never married)

I have received a letter from a french court demanding pay slips tax returns etc for calculating child maintance. All in french, with a court date in July.

Can a UK citzen be made to pay under European law for child support even though I have been making voluntary contributions since the child was born and left to live back in france (child has a french passport) with the child's mother?

CSA in the UK are not interested with this case as they live in France, but there guidelines are followed.

Can the french law dictate what I have to pay, and would it bepossible for the french/european courts demand through debt collectors / loss adjusters removing personal items to cover such arrears.

Any help with this would be off great help.

Many Thanks

Steve, I would strongly urge you to seek legal advice in this instance - people here have different experiences as well as different axes to grind and I would strongly suggest that you need some independant, legal head to look at this.

There are reciprocal arrangements for English courts to enforce French maintenance orders.

Seek professional advice!

You can get more information about the rules for applications for child maintenance when one or more parents live outside the UK from our National Helpline on 0151 243 1901.
