Village cottage or apartment required

I want to spend 2 - 3 months in France (not Paris merci) from 1 0ctober 2008.  Don't drive so need village or town with Railway station.  Just me (hubby may visit briefly) so just one or two bedrooms.  Farm gites are not suitable. Prefer reasonable size town so I can immerse myself in culture, access to internet cafe etc
