Top hotels in France celebrated at World Travel Awards

If you are planning a getaway to France in 2020, treat yourself to a stay at one of these award-winning hotels and resorts

Hoteliers in France are toasting their success after winning a host of prestigious awards including World's Leading Luxury Hotel.

The finest travel brands in the world were unveiled at the World Travel Awards Grand Final, including several with resorts and properties in France.

At the event, held in Oman, the World's Leading Luxury Hotel was announced as The Peninsula in Paris where guests can enjoy a taste of Parisian life by dining on private terraces and taking in rooftop garden views over the city.

Until 29 February 2020 visitors can even book their very own private ice skating rink in the middle of a winter garden, including private lessons, by staying at the hotel's Katara rooftop suite.

Also announced at the Grand Final was the award for World's Leading Theme Park Resort which went to Disneyland Paris, which is hosting a Frozen Celebration from 11 January to 3 May.

InterContinental Hotels and Resorts was crowned the World's Leading Hotel Brand, with the InterContinental Paris - Le Grand, in Rue Scribe, winning France's Leading Business Hotel in the Europe category.

The luxury hotel's rooms and suites enjoy views of the world-famous Palais Garnier, home to the Paris Opera. It also has two acclaimed restaurants, Café de la Paix and La Verrière, set in a winter garden.

To the west of the country, France's Leading Hotel was won by InterContinental Bordeaux - Le Grand Hotel and in the south, Leading Conference Hotel went to InterContinental Carlton Cannes.

Other winners in the Europe category included Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris which was named France's Leading Luxury City Hotel; La Réserve Hotel and Spa Paris, in Avenue Gabriel, which picked up Leading Hotel Residences; Buddha-Bar Hotel in Rue d'Anjou, Paris tipped as France's Leading Boutique Hotel and Fraser Suites Le Claridge Champs-Élysées took home the title of Leading Serviced Apartments.

On the Côte d'Azur, the stunning Palace Sea-View Suite at the Grand-Hôtel du Cap Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel, won France's Leading Hotel Suite.

The hotel's residential-style suite has a separate living area, king bedroom and a wide, sea view terrace looking out over the sparkling Mediterranean Sea.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts was also named the World's Leading Luxury Hotel Brand.

Meanwhile, the winner of France's Leading Resort was Terre Blanche Hotel in Tourrettes, Var. This resort's luxury five-star accommodation includes suites and villas located in independent country houses, across 300 acres of forest.

Its facilities include four heated pools, including an infinity pool with a panoramic view, along with a Kids Club and spa.

Terre Blanche was also awarded France's Best Golf Hotel at the World Golf Awards 2019.

Other winners at the WTA Grand Final included Small Luxury Hotels of the World, which represents many boutique hotels across France, named the World's Leading Boutique Hotel Brand and JW Marriott, which has a hotel in Cannes, winning World's Leading Business Hotel Brand.

Aside from accommodation, Sixt Luxury Cars won the title of World's Leading Luxury Car Rental Company and Avis was crowned the World's Leading Car Rental Company.

Cruisedirect.com, which offers cruises in Europe calling in at the port of Marseille, won World's Leading Cruise Travel Agent; Norwegian Cruise Line, which also offers Mediterranean cruises, was presented with World's Leading Cruise Line and Star Clippers which organises western Mediterranean cruises calling at Cannes, won the award for World's Leading Green Cruise Line and World's Leading Luxury Sailing Cruise Company.
