If you’re looking for a great wine to take home to impress your guests, you can now discover the best bottles in your neighbourhood at the touch of a button

Not sure which wine to pick up for dinner or staying somewhere new and need help finding a decent bottle from the nearest wine merchant?

Wine recommendation app Corkscrew has launched a new ‘Wine Near Me’ feature to take the hassle out of finding great wine. The app acts as a digital sommelier to sift through the hundreds of wines available to shoppers on their doorstep. It instantly ranks the wines using ratings from top critics and state of the art food pairing to recommend the best overall bottles from retailers within walking distance.

The free app is designed to be ‘the sommelier in your pocket’ giving users wine recommendations based on personal preferences, budget, food choice and critic reviews. The app uses geo-location to recommend wines from nearby retailers, including all nationwide supermarkets and wine merchants.

So if you are looking for the perfect red to pair with your Ribeye steak, or the top critically acclaimed white for your price point, Corkscrew navigates your local area to help you find the best wine to suit you.

Corkscrew Founder and CEO, Matthew Gertner, says: “Shopping for wine can be a frustrating experience - with an overwhelming amount of choice but very limited objective information in which to make an informed decision.

“Often, consumers get stuck in a rut of picking by price or selecting the same wine every time - not wanting to risk wasting money or being shown up in front of friends and family by picking a disappointing wine.

“Corkscrew was born from my desire to democratise wine selection, helping users feel more confident when choosing wine. And now with the ‘Wine Near Me’ feature we’ve made it even simpler to pick the best bottle nearby - by enabling users the option to browse all their local wine retailers at once. Now they can discover the very best neighbourhood wines – without the hassle of having to actually go through numerous stores to find the right bottle and get the best value for their money.”

Available for iOS and Android, Corkscrew pre-loads the wine databases from retailers nearby, and arms the user with a simple and objective one to 100 percentage score to help them pick the best wine for their price point.

The scoring takes into account not only critic ratings, but the pedigree of the producer, the quality of the vintage, and the user’s personal preferences. The higher the percentage score, the better the wine match.

Corkscrew also enables shoppers to pair their chosen meal with the perfect wine on the aisle, through its OmniPair™ algorithm, based on their specific dish and 10,000 wine flavours - as identified by its in-house sommelier.

Corkscrew works in all national supermarkets and wine merchants including Sainsbury’s and Majestic Wine as well as select independent wine merchants. Corkscrew users can choose to see the wine rankings by individual retailers, combined across all retailers, and for online purchases.

Restaurant diners can also use the app to select the perfect wine in all chain restaurants including Cafe Rouge, Strada and Côte and select independent restaurants.

For those who don’t have at least five wine retailers within 500 metres of their location, Wine Near Me will automatically extend its search radius to as far as 25km.
