Archant

In the May 2017 issue of French Property News, we give you an update on the French property market, let you in on how to get the most out of viewings, go househunting in hidden Provence and find out how an expat bought a house in Languedoc to get on a property ladder he could not reach in London

In the know

We asked currency and legal experts, as well as estate agents, how they thought the French property market was doing following the EU referendum and compiled a detailed market report which, we hope, will answer some of your questions about buying in France at the moment and in the near future. We also looked at how you can maximise your property viewing trip with plenty of useful tips from agents, examined the ways you can reseach your home’s history and went through the process of applying for French nationality withouth losing your British one.

Lesser-known locations

This month we went off the beaten track all over France. From undiscovered Provence with its olive groves, lavender fields and beautiful houses for all budgets, and the historic town of Béziers and its bucolic surroundings in the south, to the underrated natural beauty of the Opal Coast near Calais and the unexpectedly fascinating town of Le Havre in the north.

Life lessons

We heard from plenty of expats who gave us some excellent advice and inspiration for buying in France, including an insider’s guide into collaborative ownership and how to turn a disused property into a thriving local café/restaurant or an award-winning B&B. We also find out how one expat spent a busy summer entertaining guests before realising he needed urgent repairs to his home – not an uncommon issue with older French houses – and how one couple left the rat race in London for a gorgeous farmhouse in Languedoc.

Plus two great historic tales from France; part two of our guide to French etiquette looking at driving, estate agents and French food; guides to filing your French income tax return, bearing in mind the boundaries of your property and why exchange rates are constantly changing. And always plenty of lovely properties for sale for all budgets.
