We are ex restauranters from London..re-locating  amongst the vines near Bergerac/Bordeaux area...arring in Juin /12th  TO FIND an ancient, grand and glorious property which has a sized garden and is accesable to basiic shopping facilities. The property will need to be 300m hab or larger and will become a commercial venture.Do you know of something suitable?

Hi Dee

Friends of ours are selling a simply beautiful chateau with lots of accommodation (perfect for an upmarket chambres d'hotes/hotel/country retreat), in the area you are looking in; it's set in superb grounds with woods & meadows plus formal gardens, large heated pool and tennis court. The property is in good structural order, but could do with some tlc in terms of interior painting. The owners are divorcing and desperate to sell quickly, so will let it go at an absolute bargain price.

I am actually an estate agent specialising in selling properties in the Duras area (mid-way between Bergerac and Bordeaux), but this property belongs to the daughter of a very good friend, so my interest is more personal than commercial !

I moved to this area with my family from the UK 2 years ago, so can help with any information you may need about the area and its pro's and cons as a place to live. We bought a lovely ancient Knights templar manoir and have nearly finished restoring it from a fairly ruined & uninhabitable state; we have enormous experience of most of what you are likely to encounter setting up a business and home here !

I'm also interested in what you intend to use the property for...........if you are by chance looking to set up an upmarket chambres d'hotes/hotel, there could be a possible opportunity. My husband is just launching a new wine import business with TV celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, and they are interested in the idea of finding a place in this area in which to host celebrity cookery schools.

Anyway, if you would like to contact me, my phone number here is 0033 553 880726 (if you're not already aware of this, it's better to first dial 0844 9767676 and you will only pay 2-3p per minute for calls to France !).

Kind regards

Caroline green

There are some good Chateau properties in the Bordeaux area on http://www.french-property.com although they might be a bit expensive, however I did see one for 775,000 Euros.
