Wooly, I don't know if you are "quotable" so I will paraphrase, if I may.
You say that you "slip out of gear" as often as you can. Do you mean you are just "coasting"? But, Wooly, I understand that is very dangerous so you musn't do it.
I'm just a woman so what do I know about these things? Perhaps SD or someone else will come along soon and give you the same advice.
After all, we wouldn't want you to go the way of your late departed brother, would we?

Coasting is fine is you know what you are doing. Never for example do it on windy roads, but on a long slow descent it is quite safe. Never in traffic or in the wet either. Nor if braking. There are many people who will say it is dangerous. They are welcome to their opinions of course
Do not try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Brings back memories of travelling in a Rover 90 in the late 50s early 60s, cruising through the Yorkshire dales on Sunday and stopping for "Tea" in a country pub. I also remember the gear lever snapping off on one of those outings ![Sad [:(]](/cs/images/emotions/sad.gif)
