Radar/camera on a tripod is classed as a fixed unit and you do not have to be issued with the ticket at the time of the offence. That means it will arrive by post and you'll have the normal fifteen days in which to pay the fine.
These tickets are issued by the central fines processing unit at Rennes and show the points penalty awarded. For French licence holders, their 'points capital' held on the central licence database is automatically updated with the penalty. However, this process cannot be applied to foreign licence holders and in these cases, it is usual for a single point to be waived - but you might scrape by with two....
I suggest you pay the fine and wait to see if there is any follow up....![Wink [;-)]](/cs/images/emotions/wink.gif)
Waddya mean it's only Saturday......

Almost a week later and still nothing in the post - how long do these things keep you on tenterhooks!

We received a surprise 90 euro speeding fine in the post yesterday. We had absolutely no recall of breaking the speed limit, both being law-abiding and definitely not the wreckless type.. but as the infraction (58 kph in a 50 area) had taken place in an area we use regularly, we paid up immediately. Then today, hubby checked the calendar and pronounced ME the guilty party and is now really miffed that he is to get the points on his licence when it should be me! Does anyone know how many points it will incur? Is there any way that we can inform the authorities of this shocking injustice.... or is it too late?
This place is like my favourite fudge: mostly sweet with a few nuts!

I think you lose one point for exceeding the speed limit by up to 20kph. You could try writing to the address on your copy of the fine notification to correct the mistake about who was driving. Have you got french driving licenses? If not it might be better just to leave it as they don't usually bother about one point if it's a UK license.

Roz - your Avis de Contravention will tell you if you have lost points. Look for the rubric: Perte de points OUI/NON. The Formulaire de Requête en Exonération gives you, in a table on the back, the precise details of how many.

Being wreckless is a good idea. Being reckless is dangerous.
