14/06/2008, 20:57 tasng4 Joined on 01/12/2007 Drome (26) Posts 19 Re: registering my bike Except that when I imported my 2002 MG ZT-T with an EU type approval number on the V5C the Prefectaire (Drome 26) would not accept this and I had to pay 180 euros for a CoC.  I believe some departments (Haute-Alps 05) would've accepted an EU type approval number. Remember it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.    Report

Several years ago now (time passes too quickly) I registered my UK bike here in France - yes it was more than 106bhp. As with many things in France , how easily things happen depend on the day of the week and the people you are dealing with etc I needed a Cof C - NO ONE even the manufacturer asked for evidence of restiction. NO ONE asked for headlight changes. The bike was given a once over by a local officail dealer this was a requirment!! to produce his 'confirmation that the bike was OK' The bike was passed by the MINES (I think thats what they're called) Yes you needed the receipt and the tax form, but just to say things will change depending on who you deal with - irrelevant of what the law states!    Report

The article did not give instructions , it was  a 'comment' based on facts  - all be them old, that irrelevant of 'laws' they don't always apply!!!!! Read some of the other forum comments and you will see this to be so. You seem very capable of spouting legal texts, its a shame the French don't allways follow their laws!! There are many here that are very grateful to him and his huge knowledge of all things legal. Just because a French person takes no notice of a law does not make it an excuse for a foreigner to do the same.
