Fine, fine. When I posted that it was like 2AM and I'd forgotten about a French exam the next day. Can't actually say that I blame you for not helping, . Have fun bitching about this.

I'm also confused by "like". I have a penchant for, OK, and perhaps, it is similar to, but as in "I am like really upset by all this like criticism"......then, no!

It was especially upsetting for me when I backpacked around the world (2004) to find that it was (like) even worse in South Africa and New Zealand.
What was truly sad was how many foreigners I met that spoke otherwise very good English that had copied the habit, as it was my bête noir I would often tease them after they would say something like (by the way that "like" is acceptable!) "he had like two bags with him" by asking "so how many bags did actually he have then?"
The worst culprit was a beautiful Finnish girl that I travelled with from the Bolivian border through Chile who was making her way to (like) Santiago to (like) teach English (like) to (like) Chilean students (like).
Oh and the then boyfriend of my South African second cousin who would preface each sentence with "like" only he had a dreadfull stammer so it was more a case of "like like like like like.............................."
I wonder what bad habits and mannerisms I have picked up from the local speech, I have only been corrected for using "par compte" instead of "en revanche" but I am sure there are many others, I contract a lot of phrases like "shuis pas" for "je ne suis pas" and "shais pas" for "je ne sais pas" etc but dont know if that is actually bad speech or local Picard patois as most around here seem to do it.
