In Saintes there is a second hand book shop close to the cathedral. Alternatively go to the local  (Sunday) brocantes and vide-greniers, there are usually plenty of French books for sale.

What about markets?  You often find second hand book stalls on markets.

The only local market I have seen that sells books is the monthly Foire in Saintes (first Monday of the month).

Admitedly, I was thinking of markets I'd been to in other parts of France - Le Bugue, Vaison La Romaine and other places.  I just assumed other places would have markets like that too.

Most small, weekly markets tend to sell fruit, veg, fish, meat and honey etc.

The bigger markets (Foires) are held once a month (on different days in different towns)and will have a wider variety of goods on offer i.e. big knickers, Cool [8-|]socks, shoes, jewellery, CDs books, hardware, live hens and ducks Wink [;-)]and all sorts of food of course.

Summer time will see more on offer in the markets and there will be plenty to attract the tourists.Smile [:)]

If you're still looking, there are lots of second-hand French books at the  new "Troc" on the way to Saintes just before before the big roundabout.
