Finally getting round to registering my bike and I've been reading over some of the back threads on this subject and was wondering how important the purchase receipt is, and the import tax thingy, do you have to get this from England or can you get one here. I've requested the CDC from HD Europe.
Thanks in Advance
Craig
Hi Craig,
In reality, its not that important. Anyone who has purchased privately, for example, will usually have a 'hand written' receipt and they are acceptable (at Civray impots anyway)
How's the recovery business going ?
Gary.
Hi Gary I did one recovery job to Croatia to pick up a Ferrari that had broken down during the Gumball Rally a very very interesting experience. The job itself never came off. I have since teamed up with another fella and we are doing renovation work. So far things are going pretty well. I hope registering the bike doesn't turn out to be as complicated as registering to work.
Hi,
The documents you need are Cert De Conformity, Quittus Fiscal (form 1993 available from your centre des impots), an attestation/letter that the headlight is suitable for use in France (although I think nowadays bike lights have a flat beam and are not RHD/LHD), proof of ID & residence (passport & EDF bill will do).
N.B. If you let me have an E_Mail address I can send you a Word document with example forms and the process. I have not imported a modern bike but have done a modern can, 2 old cars and an old bike. The process is pretty much the same but with old cars/bike you can bypass Cert De Conf by registering as a Vehicile De Collection.
Hope this helps.
I've sent the document.
Hope my experiences help you.

Hi.
Surely the matter of the headlight is encompassed in the Cert De Conformity From the Concesionaire.
If the bike is post 2002 it will qualify for an EU certificate of conformity issued by the UK manufacturer/importer which allows it to be registered in any EU member state without any any additional inspection or modification. The prefecture will accept an EU CoC without question.
Pre 2002 bikes are not covered by the EU legislation and must therefore conform with French national type approval. The French importers will normally ask for proof of headlamp/speedo kpm compliance before they will issue a French type approval attestation.
