Can anyone name the lilac/vivid purple orchid type flower that is very common at this time of year in the hedgerows?certainly very striking and a good subject for my watercolour painting.!  maude

In that case it's Loose-flowered orchid, (Orchis laxiflora, Orchis à fleurs lâches), frequently grows in small groups unlike the second one, which is the Green winged orchid, (Anacamptis morio, Orchis bouffon), which tends to be more "dotted" around in an area and much shorter.
