Hi Zed, firstly welcome to the forum!!
When we moved over we went to the town where we thought that we wanted to move near to. It happened to be Carcassonne. We went into several immobilier to look what they had to rent. We were looking for long term up to 2 years. We found the place that we spent 8 months in before buying our own place.
What I am trying to say is that if you can come over and look you will almost certainly get a better idea of what you want and, more importaintly, need.
