Sorry to be pain but I have spent an hour searching through to find out about this and can't find anything.

Having spotted a few 'ladies' pottering around on little scooters my wife rather fancies buying one, the problem is that she has no licence. Is there a scooter you can buy in France that does not require one? If so what are they called and when looking what are the restrictions on the scooter like engine capacity and power etc?

No licence is required for scooters/mopeds that are 50cc or under, and have a maximum speed of 45 kph.

Edit: I should add that the above is true for your wife (assuming she was born before the 1st Jan 1988 Wink [;-)] ).  For those born after this date, the rules are different, and are explained here http://www.securiteroutiere.equipement.gouv.fr/infos-ref/education/edu-vie/le-brevet-de-securite-routiere.html
