Can anyone tell me what "waney edged timber" is called in  french?

Timber which is sawed into planks but which still has 'natural' edges, possibly with bark still attached.Smile [:)]

Need some waney oak to make rustic surrounds for our new doorways. Will ask for "bardage" & see what I get!

Go to sawmill that makes parquet and they will have the raw material still with edged on them, point and draw, always gets a response

If you do get hold of what you want Postie, be very careful that you're not bringing woodboring insects into your house, the bark and sapwood on 'waney' edged timber is ideal habitat for the wee critters.
