13/03/2008, 21:55 Jonzjob Joined on 23/08/2004 Nr Carcassonne, 11 Posts 2,552 A different holiday?? A friend of ours has a completely different idea for a holiday. It is a 100 foot barge that's permanently moored on the Canal du Midi by a lock in an idilic situation about 5 miles East of Carcassonne. The name of the boat is the Lodela and the web site is www.penichelodela.com . I have slept on it on the 3 day journey from the moorings to near Narbonne and another 3 days return for the last repaint last March and even with none of the normal services connected it was a lovely place to be. Bloomin cold on deck driving it in March though!! I have no finantial interest in this lovely boat other than I  help him move it when the canal is drained for maintainence or it needs a repaint job and what a privilage to be able to drive a 78 year old peniche on the canal!! John. The only difference between the men & the boys is the size & the shape & the price of their toys!!    Report

We walked past this barge when we walked to trebes from carcassonne last year, its in a lovely setting  by a lock, lovely sitting area on top. I took some pics of it will have a look to see if I can find them. We lived on a narrow boat for 8 years it was great fun , wish we had moved it now to france rather than sold it but we travelled all over the water ways , very relaxing    Dirty Tom =^..^= Where ever I lay my paw thats my home    Report

I have just got back from helping to put that big awning up this morning. It was lovely there with the sun out and a clear blue sky . Oh yes, and a beer !! John. Hugues normally puts it into the locks without touching either side!! Oh yes, it 100 foot long too... Lots of rom for 6 people... John.
