F1/Sports Cars

I know there are one or two people interested, so thought it was about time to get a thread going.
In F1, Ferrari, McLaren, BMW, Toyota and Red Bull have all presented this year's cars and testing got under way this week at Jerez and the season's first race is only a few weeks away.

Anyway Cooper (or anyone else) here are a few pics I took au Mans in '98. Only found one packet of prints, so the Porsche and Mercedes pics are missing. I was doing a project in "the village" with a group of people, and we had press passes for the full 3 days. That gave us access to the pit lane during practice and the press room above the pits, the paddock and the hospitality tents for the whole week end. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all free with whichever big manufacturer took our fancy! I think we decided that Toyota were best for quality and choice of wine Wink [;-)]
The Nissans were the prettiest cars that year, imo, and would've made great road cars. It was the last year the McLarens were raced there I think.

With you on the Nissan, Raindog!  Loverly.

Good to know that closed coupes are back in from 2010 - the protos look so much better that way, imo (although the Pug looks like it's from outer space from some angles.)  The shot taken from the Pits grandstand looks as if you must have been sitting near us when you took it!

I know you've seen them, but anybody else who's interested in this sort of stuff can see mine at :

I'll try to find some old stuff, too.

I wasn't in the grandstand cooper, it's taken from the pressroom balcony. Strange to think we probably weren't that far away from each other tho'!
Apparently about 80% of the Le Mans crowd are Brits - without them it would be a non-event.
I looked at your pics yonks ago when you first gave me the link. They're perfect - are you a professional, or is it just your own private stash?

Very kind of you to say so.. No, just an enthusiastic amateur.  And the nice thing about digital is that I can now takes hundreds of cr*p pics and only show off the good ones!

The stats are the reverse of you info'.  Have a look HERE for some interesting stuff.

The press balcony is now gone (I was up in the press office last year at PQ) - the only views are through glass.

Oh, and I just realised, only five months to go....Big Smile [:D]

Coops, i've only just found this (I only come on here thesedays to check out the rugby thread!Smile [:)])
Fabulous quality as usual.
There was a bit on FR3 local news when the tests were on about one of the Aston teams. The one with the fluorescent yellow around the air intake. Pretty interesting.
I hate the Ricard circuit now. All those daft multi-coloured run-off areas - can't see were the track is any more!
First gp this week end and i'm at a bloody wedding in England.
(i'll also miss Ireland/England) Sad [:(]

And, much more important - Sebring.  Peugeot so far setting the pace in practice (but the Ingolstadt lads are no doubt sandbagging as per...)  How inconsiderate can these young lovebirds be, for goodness sake?Whistles [Www]
