Angry [:@] lack of sales!
Reply Quote

I went to my supermarket and DIY store today expecting to pick up lots of bargains of all of the Xmas tut.  But it's all gone!  Packed away and sent back where it came from - I was gutted (my husband is quite pleased though!).

Does anywhere have Xmas sales?  How about Gamm Vert and the like.

I need to spend some money!!!!!

In most departments the sales don't start until 9 January.

In case you want to get to the first day of the sales they start in all departments on Wednesday 9 January.

Yes, it does. The dates are fixed twice a year by the préfectures, although this is likely to change soon-ish...

Hi Clair

I have not heard anything about changes to the sales.  Do you know what is being suggested.

There seems to be very few 'real' sales in Cahors and wondered if the chnages you suggest may be responsible.

What I would give to go back to the UK for a bit of real sale shopping!

What is being discussed at present is the idea of reducing the restrictions on when a sale can be held in France. Nothing is going to happen immediately. Shops can offer limited "promotions" or "clearance sales due to works" (this require permission from the authorities) but general sales are restricted to defined periods, twice per year. There is a "Finance police," part of whose job it is to ensure that "sales" conform to the strict definitions.

Pickles

Are there regs on the prices that things are offered at?  I ask because at a branch of well-known chain of mega sports superstore I came across something odd.  Before Christmas, I bought my son a pair of skis, price 178 euros.  They are really good so I thought that if they had been reduced in the sales I might get myself a pair. So, off I go to find find them with a big sign on them saying 'Soldes 189 euros! previously 399 !!'  It so happened I still had the original reciept with me and yup 178 euros! I was hoping for around 140 euros or less Sad [:(]
