Has anyone any idea about our situation. We have been living in France since May 2004. We have both in the past few months reached 60. We don't work but we pay into the tax system on our savings and pension. We have a Social Security number and a Carte Vitale. In September we submitted E121 forms, my wife having reached pensionable age and dependency for myself, to CPAM. We have now received through URSSAF a letter informing us " la radiation de votre compte Regime Genereal sous condition de residence (Couverture Maladie Universelle - cmu)  a effet du 30/9/2007"

Two days later we received a brown form : CONTRIBUTIONS SOCIALES. REVENUS DE 2006.

This has taxes based on our "Revenus de capitaux mobiliers" totalling 11% ( CSG 8.2%, CRDS 0.5%,  Prel. Soc et cont. solidarite (??)2.3%)

I have been in hospital for the past two weeks receiving treatment, fantastic treatment may I say, for a fairly serious condition. I am out of hospital now receiving home visits from a nurse. We are concerned and worried and just a little confused.

The brown form CONTRIBUTIONS SOCIALES. REVENUS DE 2006 is a tax demand and has now direct relation to the CMU cover or end of.

This tax helps finance the French Social Security system. The CSG is paid on income from employment, substitute income, property income and investment income. The CRDS, which came into effect on the 1st February 1996, is also paid on all income. All persons treated as residents of France for income tax purposes and subject to a French compulsory health insurance scheme are liable to the CSG at the rate of 7.5% and the CRDS at the rate of 0.5% on their earnings.
